About Nursery Tap
Husband/Wife team Mathew and Juleen Murray Shaw founded Nursery Tap, LLC with the intention of producing beautiful children's videos that introduce the small child to the performing arts in an "out of the box" kind of way. Juleen believes using traditional nursery rhymes as the accompaniment for tap, ballet, hip hop, acting, singing, word play, rhythm and rhyming stimulates the brain and body of little ones in addition to giving them a love of words and the arts for a life time.
To keep the focus on the words and the movement, she decided to shoot all of the dancers/rhymes from just above the waist down. This keeps the child from being distracted by someone else's facial interpretation and allows them to imagine themselves as one of the dancer/actor/singers.
How did that come about? Well, while in tap class one day Juleen was struck and inspired by the fact that the rhythm of tap reminded her of the rhyming rhythm of nursery rhymes and thought the two would make fascinating dance partners. She also thought there was room for an updated interpretation of the rhymes. These rhymes have been around for centuries and have helped us raise our children...why not see if they can be made to sound a little more contemporary. With that in mind she set to rehearsing and laying down the audio tracks with the help of her associate producer and young actress, Brynn Bromley. She then gave the audio to dancer Krystal McMullin who proceeded to choreograph the rhymes with age appropriate movement. This along with Juleen's expert sense of theatricality and staging makes for captivating children's entertainment.
